Dark looks rule the Milan catwalks for autumn/winter season

MILAN (Reuters) - Fashion designers at Milan fashion week delivered a dark palette and masculine styles for autumn-winter wardrobes in a reflection of Italy's bleak economic and political landscape.

Giorgio Armani, Gucci and Roberto Cavalli were among the fashion houses whose darkly colored catwalk collections for the 2013-14 autumn/winter season catwalk shows evoked the anxiety over grim expectations for Italian fashion sales, worries over European economic health and uncertainty over domestic politics.

Designer Miuccia Prada, whose sleek collections are eagerly awaited at the Milan week, chose a post-industrial setting to present her look for a modern woman hemmed in by the grim realities of life since an economic downturn began in 2008.

"It seems to me that in the contemporary world you cannot let yourself go completely," Prada said after her show.

Armani re-worked a masculine style for a collection that included suspenders and jumpsuits in black velvet accessorized with black berets.

"We must create clothes that women wear," Armani said backstage from a show attended by Princess Charlene of Monaco.

Luxury retailers have fared better than other industries during the prolonged recession in southern Europe thanks to demand from wealthy travelers from Asia, the Middle East and Russia.

But global sales of Italian fashion - including those of smaller brands hit hard by the crisis - are expected to fall by 3.5 percent this year after dropping 5.4 percent in 2012, textile and fashion body Sistema Moda Italia (SMI) said.

Designers expressed concerns about stability in Italy, where the uncertain outcome of parliamentary elections held during the fashion week rekindled fears of a new euro zone debt crisis.

"We need infrastructures to attract tourists but we also need a long-term government for such long-term measures," said Michele Norsa, chief executive of Salvatore Ferragamo.

SCULPTED BEAUTY

Gucci designer Frida Giannini offered jackets narrowed at the waist with egg-shaped shoulders and worn over pencil skirts below the knee. A mostly pragmatic look designed for work.

Giannini, who is going to have her first baby in a couple of weeks, used colors like purple, rust, moss green and dark blue for a femme fatale she said was "steely yet sexy".

If colors were dark, materials were bold.

Neoprene, lurex and vinyl surfaced everywhere, with Versace delivering the most daring looks in a rock-and-roll show.

Creative head Donatella Versace showed ankle-length silk dresses with vinyl details contouring the body, while oversized coats came in bright yellow and black-and-white colors.

Designers reserved their boldest ideas for accessories, where sales have risen during the recession because they are more affordable in price and can be used for more than a season.

"Sales of my accessories are growing," Armani said, after showing shoes with sculpted heels and a variety of handbags.

Versace opted for silver spikes on chain necklaces and studded boots, while Roberto Cavalli crafted necklaces in the shape of snakes and roses and large earring enveloping the ears.

Dolce & Gabbana, who drew inspiration from Byzantine mosaics, had shoes with inlaid sculpted heels, capped their models with golden crowns and draped them in jewels.

Other trends for next winter include zips, seen at Etro, pleated skirts from Blumarine, and a return of padded shoulders.

Pirate Bay moves from Sweden to Norway, Spain

(AP) ? Embattled file-sharing site The Pirate Bay is looking for safe havens in Norway and Spain after its Swedish host came under legal pressure to shut it down.

The Swedish Pirate Party, a small political party advocating transparency and freedom online, has provided Internet access to the site for the past three years.

But it's handing over those duties to sister parties in Norway and Spain's Catalonia region following legal threats from the Rights Alliance, a Swedish anti-piracy group representing the entertainment industry, officials for all three parties told The Associated Press on Tuesday.

"Basically, the service that was provided by the Swedish Pirate Party is nowadays provided by the Norwegian Pirate Party, and soon also by the Catalan Pirate Party," said Kenneth Peiruza, a spokesman for the Catalan group.

The Pirate Bay is one of the world's biggest free file-sharing websites, offering millions of users a forum for downloading music, movies and computer games. The site doesn't host any pirated material itself, but acts as an index to help people find files they can share with each other using BitTorrent software. The entertainment industry has failed to shut it down, even after its operators were convicted of copyright violations in Sweden in 2009.

Sara Lindback of the Rights Alliance said the case underlines how difficult it is to combat illegal file-sharing online, but suggested the fight against The Pirate Bay would continue.

"It's a step in the right direction that the service is driven out of Sweden," Lindback said. "But as long as the service is up we will do what we can to protect our rights-holders."

Pirate Party officials said the laws in Norway and Catalonia would make it hard for the entertainment industry to prevent them from offering web hosting services to The Pirate Bay.

By doing so, the parties are only acting as a "digital post office," said Geir Aaslid, leader of the Norwegian Pirate Party. "We're not responsible for the mail passing through the pipeline."

The Pirate Bay didn't comment on the move directly, but changed the name of the site temporarily to The Hydra Bay, an apparent reference to a mythological beast that grows two new heads when one head is cut off.

The Science Of Being 'Top Dog'

"To compete well means to take risks that are normally constrained by fear," Po Bronson tells NPR's Michel Martin.

ManoAfrica/iStockphoto.com

Following their best-selling book, NurtureShock: New Thinking About Children, Bronson and Ashley Merryman teamed up again for Top Dog: The Science of Winning and Losing.

Bronson says "risk-taking is a crucial quality of competitiveness." Science shows that "if you focus on the odds, you tend not to take the risk," he says.

He points to an evident gender bias when it comes to risk. The book states that women tend to be really good at assessing their own odds, while "men are good at ignoring the odds." This can be a good thing, though, Bronson says: "There's times in our life that ignoring the odds is crucial."

Bronson admits that discovering gender differences in competitive styles was a hard thing to accept. "As the son of a feminist single working mother, I've never given gender differences much hay before in my life," he says. "But here, the science was showing gaps in differences between men and women that were too large to ignore."

Merryman points to women's skills at "careful risk analysis and ability to judge really well" as a blessing and a curse. She says that while they are assets on Wall Street, for example, those skills could also work against women. While men can tend to be overconfident, women "will apply that same careful risk analysis to her own work," she says. "Rather than overselling herself, she's underselling herself."

Bronson says research has shown that at a younger age, women handle competition better than men, especially at elite schools. "Kids keep score," he points out. "They're very conscious of how they rank versus other people around them, boys especially so."

And "whether girls are on top or in the middle or slightly below," he says, "they do terrific in elite schools." Boys, however, struggle if they are not on top. "Being a little fish in a big pond is a particularly bad experience for them," he says. "Girls can handle it."

But are we better off knowing these things?

"We definitely don't want to use any of the science to pigeonhole people," Merryman says, but what the authors learned shouldn't be ignored. "There isn't an ideal type of competitor," she says. "Po and I write about how people can be playing to win or playing not to lose."

The difference, she explains, is that playing to win means focusing on success, whereas playing not to lose focuses on preventing mistakes. "I think it's easy to switch into that playing-not-to-lose mentality," Merryman says, "but if you want to grow, if you want to challenge yourself, if you want to innovate, you have to force yourself to be playing to win."

After Plenty Of Duds, LG May Finally Have A Winner With The Optimus G Pro

gpro1The last time I bought an LG smartphone -- the unabashedly brown G2x -- I had to return it after a few weeks because it would randomly reboot if I so much as looked at it funny. From then on, I convinced myself that I just couldn't buy another LG phone. They just weren't worth the headache. After playing with LG's Optimus G Pro here at MWC, I'm starting to rethink that decision.

Cochlear implants aid adults with hearing loss: study

(Reuters) - Cochlear implants can improve speech and quality of life in adults with severe hearing loss - and two implants seem to work better than one, according to a U.S. analysis of past research.

The study, which appeared in JAMA Otolaryngology - Head & Neck Surgery, included 42 studies that compared hearing, speech and quality of life in eligible adults before and after they received a cochlear implant or compared having one versus two functioning implants.

According to the U.S. National Institutes of Health, about 17 percent of U.S. adults have some degree of hearing loss, and the chance of becoming hard of hearing increases with age. Only those with severe hearing loss or deafness, for whom hearing aids haven't work, are considered for cochlear implants.

"Unilateral cochlear implants provide improved hearing and significantly improve quality of life, and improvements in sound localization are noted for bilateral implantation," wrote researchers led by James Gaylor from Tufts Medical Center in Boston.

The studies used in the analysis used a range of tests over different time periods to measure the effects of implantation, so it was difficult to compare them directly, the researchers added. However, almost all the trials looking at the effect of a single cochlear implant showed that people's speech and quality of life improved after implantation.

"Cochlear implantation is just a hugely beneficial procedure for the people who need it. It's almost like magic," said Pamela Roehm, an otolaryngologist from the NYU Langone Medical Center, who wasn't involved in the study.

"Their hearing isn't completely normal, but for speech (and) understanding, it's so good."

Among studies comparing one versus two implants, the majority also found participants were better at communicating and localizing sound when they had a cochlear implant in each ear. It wasn't clear how much of an effect a second implant had on their quality of life, however.

Possible complications of implantation include infection or damage to the device. But Roehm said all things considered, it's a pretty minor procedure.

"It's surgery - you have to have general anesthesia - but as surgeries go, it's not very risky (and) you don't lose a lot of blood," she said. She and her colleagues have put implants into patients over 90 years old, with good results.

The new findings don't mean that deafness has a detrimental effect on quality of life, Gaylor told Reuters Health in an email. He added that for some in the deaf community, cochlear implants are still controversial.

"Our hope is that this paper will allow providers, payers and most importantly patients to ... make more informed decisions about cochlear implantation," Gaylor wrote. SOURCE: http://bit.ly/Zn0UoC

Hamishwillee - Renamed title

Hi saramgsilva

Thanks for this article. I have renamed it to be more "specific" in title. I have not yet subedited.

One thing to consider is branding - is the name "marketplace" or "windows phone store". Best to use consistent naming in line with branding.

Hamish

Saramgsilva - Response

Hello,

Don?t have problem, i think we should use Windows Phone Store, because if you see the link www.windowsphone.com/pt-pt/store the name is store. We should change the name for portuguese version, for "Pontos a ter em considera??o antes de submeter uma aplica??o na loja do Windows Phone"

Thanks

Time Study Finds Some Hospitals Bill Patients Many Times More Than Actual Procedure Cost

Feb 22, 2013 6:39pm

When Emilia Gilbert fell and went to the emergency room, she was diagnosed with a simple broken nose and released. But a few weeks later, she got the bill and was floored again.

?I knew I would have to pay something, but I didn?t think it was going to be $9,000,? Gilbert said.

Gilbert?s $9,418?bill included a $6,538?charge for three CT scans that the government says should actually cost the hospital only about $800 for all three under Medicare rates.

A Time magazine study found non-profit hospitals routinely bill many patients many times more than what a procedure costs the hospital. In one case, a hospital charged a 10,000 percent markup for a single over-the-counter pain pill.

Time contributor Steven Brill?s seven-month investigation unveiled the ?Chargemaster,? an internal list of what hospitals charge?patients.

?It?s a price list that is completely happenstance,? he said. ?Nobody can explain it.?

For example, one hospital charged a patient $157 for a blood test that it bills Medicare just $11 for. Another patient was charged $7,997 for a stress test that Medicare pays about $554 for.

?Everybody?s making exorbitant profits,? Brill said.

The American Hospital Association said a bill reflects not just the patient?s treatment but also ?what it takes to provide the care ? the nurse at the bedside and all the staff who keep the hospital running 24 hours a day.?

Brill said what most people don?t know is that they can usually negotiate their bills down so they don?t pay the price Emilia Gilbert paid.

Chinese hackers have hit every Washington network, intel says

Chinese hackers have hit nearly every Washington institution, according to unnamed intelligence officials.

?The dark secret is there is no such thing as a secure unclassified network,? one said in a Newser report. ?Law firms, think tanks, newspapers. If there?s something of interest, you should assume you?ve been penetrated.?

One FBI official had this to add, according to Newser: ?I?ve yet to come across a network that hasn?t been breached.?

A recent report from a Virginia firm found that a special unit of China?s military holed in a small, nondescript office is to blame for cybersecurity breaches at 141 different targets around the world. Hackers are particularly targeting Washington?s power base, Newser said. China continues to deny its involvement in cybersecurity warfare.

America?s big hope, the unnamed intelligence experts said in the Newser report, is that China gets so much information that its hackers just can?t process it.

?You can waste an enormous amount of time and effort puzzling over something that is totally meaningless,? said one expert on China in the Newser report.

Jackery outs Bar and Mini portable battery packs, aims to give powerhungry devices a boost

Mophie's Juice Packs are all the rage when it comes to giving a meaningful power boost to popular slabs like the iPhone 5 and Galaxy S III, but let's not forget others outside that group may need some help, too. Here's where the California-based firm Jackery hopes to come in. The company's just introduced its Bar and Mini external batteries, touting rather portable and peculiar designs as some of the main features present. More importantly, both of the USB-equipped power packs are loaded with 5,600 and 2,600mAh, respectively -- and, according to Jackery, this is enhanced by the peripherals' ability to hold a charge for up to six months, thanks to the company's own "unique power lock technology." Jackery's 5.4-ounce Bar is available starting today for $40, while the more petite Mini (which weighs in at less than three ounces) can be yours for 10 bucks less than its heavier sibling.

Fox & Friends Tears Into Obama?s ?Scare-Quester?: ?Unbelievable? GOP Let Themselves Be Labeled ?Rich? Party

On Friday, Fox & Friends took a look at the automatic spending cuts known as the sequester, known to them as the ?scare-quester.? Hitting President Obama for tossing aside the idea of compromise, the crew also noted there may be some pressure on him to do just that.

?Life as we know it on planet Earth will pretty much end,? is Obama?s message about the sequester, Steve Doocy asserted, adding that while Republicans have been working they?ve yet to hear from Obama.

In disbelief that the president and Congress went on vacation with the deadline looming, Brian Kilmeade also noted that the Obama feels the polls are on his side. ?And he has successfully put the sequester as the blame for Republicans in the House,? he added.

While previously the president?s pressure on Republicans has worked, Gretchen Carlson chimed in, Obama now seems to be feeling pressure to come to the table and reach out.

Only a few weeks ago, Obama got his way with taxes, Kilmeade added, prompting Doocy to note that that ?was compromise.? And yet now they want to raise taxes again?

?I think it?s unbelievable the Republicans somehow have allowed themselves to be labeled as the party of rich when there is no more rich Republicans than there are rich Democrats,? Kilmeade asserted.

Eventually, the crew moved on to the ?draconian? defense cuts that would result from the sequester, arguing that Obama is not a ?pro-defense? president.

If by chance any rhinestones do fall off they can be replaced with a small dab of Super Glue or E6000. If you need replacement rhinestones please contact me & I will send you some at no charge.

Cesarean Section Is Live Tweeted By Memorial Hermann Hospital In Houston (VIDEO)

We've heard of moms in labor tweeting from the delivery room, but until yesterday, we had never witnessed surgeons sending minute-by-minute updates during a patient's cesarean section.

Starting early Wednesday morning, Dr. Sherri Levin at Houston's Memorial Hermann hospital live tweeted a Caesarean section being performed by her colleague, Dr. Anna Gonzalez. Using tweets, photos and videos (with fair warning of their graphic nature) Levin guided viewers through the procedure, while also answering their questions about the surgery. The hospital's social media manager Natalie Camarata told the Associated Press that over 72,000 people from 60 countries watched the procedure as it happened. "It's fascinating to pull back the curtain on the mystery of the OR," Camarata said.

The 39-year-old patient, who was not identified by the hospital, was having a scheduled c-section for this second delivery because her first pregnancy resulted in an emergency c-section, Levin explained.

The stream of data included a tender photo of the mom and dad:

Among the dozens of 140-character updates that followed (see below, for the timeline) there was a video of the moment the newborn was lifted from the womb. "Happy Birthday," Levin tweeted.

The baby boy weighed in at 6lbs and 1 ounce, measuring 19 and 1/4 inches long. As our friends at HLN pointed out, the name "Hashtag" is already taken, but if this baby follows suit, the moniker could become a trend (pun intended).

THE RESET: Obama, GOP battles don't affect Fed job

While the White House and Congress lurch combatively from one budget crisis to the next, another Washington institution has been bolstering the economy steadily and with little fanfare since the 2008 financial crisis began.

And the Federal Reserve seems likely to keep its stimulus pumps running at least awhile longer ? although minutes from a recent meeting show growing nervousness among U.S. central bankers over possible long-range harmful consequences, including steep inflation and instability in financial markets.

The Fed, under Chairman Ben Bernanke, has been keeping a key short-term interest rate near zero for over four years and is buying tens of billions of dollars in Treasury and mortgage bonds a month to keep downward pressure on longer-term interest rates and to provide liquidity to financial institutions.

Oh, and it's buying those bonds with money created out of thin air with the electronic equivalent of a printing press.

Minutes from the Fed's Jan. 29-30 policy meeting showed increasing debate over whether to end the huge stimulus sooner rather than later.

Still, the Fed voted 11-1 to continue its $85-billion monthly bond buying program for now.

However, the concerns were enough to drive European stocks sharply lower Thursday and contributed to a second day of declines for U.S. stocks ? even though there's scant evidence of rising inflation.

U.S. consumer prices were flat last month, a new government report shows, another sign inflation remains in check.

The latest crisis for President Barack Obama and Congress is the approach of deep, mandatory "sequester" spending cuts due to hit March 1 absent a bipartisan deficit-reduction deal. So far Republicans who lead the House have rejected Obama's insistence that any agreement be "balanced" with both spending cuts and increased tax revenues.

U.S. policymakers barely averted a "fiscal cliff" at the end of last year.

"Managing from crisis to crisis every 60 to 90 days is absurd," House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer, D-Md., said Thursday on MSNBC.

Washington Nationals? Pitcher Arms Himself With Prayer

Craig Stammen

? Courtesy of the Washington Nationals

Craig Stammen of the Washington Nationals is among the hundreds of players preparing for the opening of spring training later this month.

While the mechanics of baseball are a part of everyone?s preparation, Stammen has an added benefit coming into the season: his practice of trusting in God?s providence.

The 28-year-old North Star, Ohio, resident learned to entrust everything to God a little over seven years ago at the University of Dayton. After a summer of rookie league baseball in 2005, Stammen returned to campus for the fall semester. It was during this time that he first shared his Catholic faith publicly ? a turning point that helped to solidify his core beliefs and aim in life.

In 2012, the right-handed relief pitcher had the best year of his four-year major-league career, going 6-1, with an earned-run average of 2.34 for the National League Eastern Division champions.

When Stammen pitches, he knows that once the ball is out of his hands, everything else is out of his hands as well. More importantly, though, he realizes everything is in the hands of a God in whom he lives and moves and has his being.

?

How has coming from a small town influenced you?

Coming from such a small place has definitely influenced me in different ways. North Star only has about 250 people in it, so, technically, it?s not even a town, but a village. When you live in a community of that size, there?s more silence, simplicity and accountability. Much of the noise and extraneous concerns prevalent today are reduced greatly, and you?re close to and dependent on your neighbors.

This is a value-based and also a humbling environment to be raised in. You?re taught to work hard, but it?s not for the sake of one-upping others. Everyone is on a level playing field, in that sense. You?re more concerned about carrying out a duty and getting a job well done for self-respect and contribution to the community.

When I bring in friends from out of the area, they say it?s like the 1950s, but with technology. We do have computers and all that, but they aren?t primary, just tools to be used when necessary. We?re more focused on family and friends than the latest gadgets. That perspective keeps you grounded in reality.

The entire village of North Star is Catholic, so even though I went to a public school, it was de facto a Catholic one. When people outside of North Star ask if I went to Catholic school, the answer is, ?Well, no, but yes.?

?

What are some of your top baseball memories from growing up?

We would sometimes play baseball as a whole family. I have quite a large extended family, so, with all the open area around us, playing games was easy to do. I also remember playing catch almost every day with my best friend. We would throw the baseball around for hours and talk about playing one day in the major leagues. It seemed like such a faraway, unreal goal back then. It was something to dream about, but I?m blessed to be living that dream out today.

?

You went on the USO Holiday Tour in December. How did that come about?

I had visited some injured servicemen at Walter Reed Army Medical Center last summer. It was quite an experience: to talk with them at length, learning about the troubles they were going through. Their sacrifices make possible the blessings in civilian life we take for granted. Their service to our country made me want to do something more to thank them for what they?ve given us.

My teammate Ross Detwiler and I were among the people who visited five countries in five days on the tour. We went to Afghanistan, Bahrain, Kyrgystan, Germany and Ireland. It was quite an adventure to ride in military planes and vehicles to some remote places. I?m used to traveling throughout our own country, but to go so many miles overseas was a totally different experience.

More important than that, though, was being able to interact with the members of our military. We got to see some of what they go through up close, which increased the respect I had for them. Leaving the comforts of home for many months at a time, and going to strange places without many of the simplest things we consider to be necessities, is an experience most of us just can?t relate to.

My own daily life is so easy and simple in comparison with what I saw the soldiers go through. I actually get paid to play baseball. How can you ever complain about that?

?

What are your expectations for spring training this year?

I?m looking forward to spring training, first of all because of what we accomplished as a team last year. We had an improved record (98-64) from 2011 and made the playoffs. This is a great thing to build on for the 2013 season, and spring training is where we do the preparatory work for that. We hope to show this season that we?re not a one-year wonder, but a perennial contender.

?

Have the Catholic faith and baseball always been integrated in your life?

Growing up, Catholicism and baseball were two separate entities in my life. Even though both were important to me, it was made clear that being Catholic came first and playing baseball second. This was and remains true, but I?ve since learned that the two things can actually be incorporated together.

What I realized at the University of Dayton is that, while you should work very hard to play as well as you can, you need to put everything in God?s hands. You do your part, and then let God determine what?s best for you. This realization has helped my game a lot. It has made playing in the majors possible, which I had previously thought of as being unattainable.

I used to play for my teammates and school, which was a good thing, but now I play for God, which is an even better thing. It?s a much broader-minded way of seeing things, and it takes a lot of the pressure off you. It opens you up to the reality that, while baseball is fun, you can?t really enjoy it to the fullest or play it to the best of your abilities without recognizing the God who made it all possible in the first place.

?

How did you come to this realization?

I was drafted after my junior season at the University of Dayton in 2005. I played in the rookie league that summer and then returned to campus for the fall semester. It was during this time that I went on a retreat.

As one of the retreat leaders, I was supposed to give my own testimony. This was a huge step for me because I hadn?t shared my faith in such a pubic way. I had talked about it with family and friends, but this was the first time I was officially claiming it as my own amidst strangers.

Ever since that retreat, I knew I had to live out what I was stating as true; I had to make a real effort to walk the walk, knowing that certain things were expected of me. Because I belonged to Christ, I had to live no longer?for myself, but?for him who died for me. It was not just about hearing the truth and agreeing with it, but actually living it.

?

That sounds like St. Paul in his Letter to the Romans (2:13) and other places.

I?ve always been interested in St. Paul. He was put in some of the worst situations, but still maintained a positive outlook. From the time of his conversion, he trusted completely in Christ, and that was what drove his missionary work.

Whenever we would have Bible projects as kids, I would choose something regarding St. Paul. He is my favorite saint, someone I look up to and try to pattern my life after, to the limited degree I can. We live in very different times, but the goal of remaining faithful until we get to heaven is the same.

It?s funny, because, when people ask me if my faith has gotten me through tough times, I really can?t think of anything heavy or burdensome I?ve been through. Maybe that?s just a sign of how blessed I am to have always had faith. Maybe the tough times haven?t seemed tough because of my faith. What happens to you isn?t nearly as important as how you respond to it.

?

What do you treasure most about the Catholic Church?

I appreciate how systematically all aspects of the Church?s teaching and sacramental life are put together. You don?t just make it up as you go along; you receive what is passed down from the apostles. Our Church goes all the way back to them and, of course, to Christ himself.

One of the most obvious ways this is made manifest is in the Mass. I love the order and structure of the Mass ? how the priest and people have specific roles, how the word of God is read and then how the Eternal Word himself is made present in the Eucharist. You can?t beat that combination. It?s something St. Paul wrote of in 1 Corinthians 11, and it?s something I?ve enjoyed since childhood.

Another aspect of my childhood in which St. Paul was involved was ?putting on the armor God.? I would listen, along with my younger brother and sister, to my mother read from the Bible while we ate breakfast. She would emphasize Ephesians 6, which concerns things like the ?shield of faith? and ?the helmet of salvation.?

We got a kick out of putting on our imaginary gear in order to take on the challenges of the day.

Over the years, we would add more items to our collection of "armor," which increased the time for us to get ready for school. Our weaponry and protection increased, but the length of our football-field-long driveway did not decrease. This made it more likely that we?d be late for the bus, so we ended up throwing our armor on as we ran down the driveway.

I still prepare spiritually in the morning, but I make sure not to be late for any pitching appearances because of it.

(AP) ? There will be a British invasion of the main stage at Bonnaroo this year.

Paul McCartney and Mumford & Sons are among the headliners for the 2013 Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival in Manchester, Tenn.

The four-day festival, held on a rural 700-acre farm, always features an eclectic roster, but the June 13-16 event is even more varied than usual.

Returnees Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers also hold down a headliner spot. Then things get a little crazy with R&B star R. Kelly, alternative queen Bjork and Wu-Tang Clan celebrating its 20th anniversary. Wilco, Pretty Lights, The Lumineers, The National, The xx, Kendrick Lamar, A$AP Rocky, Nas and ZZ Top also top the list announced Tuesday by "Weird Al" Yankovic via Bonnaroo's YouTube channel.

Tickets go on sale at noon EST on Saturday.

McCartney, the former Beatle and recent frontman of Sirvana, will be making his first appearance at the event.

Mumford & Sons, fresh off its album of the year win at the Grammy Awards, return to Bonnaroo after a memorable 2011 second-stage performance that stretched more than an hour, drew friends Old Crow Medicine Show and had fans hanging off fences to get a better view.

Other top-of-the-list performers include Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Animal Collective, Daniel Tosh, David Byrne & St. Vincent, Passion Pit and Grizzly Bear.

The festival hosts more than 120 acts. More will be announced later.

There are a few curiosities on the list. Glam-punk Billy Idol and Odd Future member and mystery man Earl Sweatshirt are scheduled to perform. Jim James will host a Soul SuperJam with John Oates, Zigaboo Modeliste of the Meters and the Preservation Hall Jazz Band.

Fans of roots rock, Americana and folk-leaning acoustic music will have more than Mumford and The Lumineers to focus on. Also scheduled to perform are Dwight Yoakam, Jason Isbell & The 400 Unit, John Fullbright, Of Monsters and Men, Calexico, JD McPherson, Father John Misty and The Tallest Man on Earth.

At Home With Jodi Wilson - A Beautiful Mess

At Home With Jodi WilsonOur next "At Home With" guest is Jodi Wilson from Che & Fidel. Jodi is here to share her daughter's room with us.Darling kid's room details Jodi Wilson room tour via A Beautiful Mess"Daniel and I moved into this little house when I was six months pregnant with Che, so essentially it's been our one and only 'family home'. It's a renovated 1960s split-level house with timber floors, white walls and lots of windows. The best thing about it is the view?we look out onto beautiful big gumtrees. It's particularly gorgeous when it rains. The most recently decorated room is Poet's. And although it's tiny, we all seem to spend quite a bit of time in there. It's light and comfortable, and she likes to potter about?it's nice to watch." Beautiful Blanket Sweet room details"I commissioned Kathryn from Maggie & Sparrow to create a quilt for Poet's first Christmas. I wanted it to be French-inspired, much like Poet's room?muted shades of grey, blue and olive with dusty pink and cream. Kathryn collected a range of?vintage?and boutique fabrics for me, sewed and quilted it to perfection and wrapped it in brown paper (tied with string) for Poet and I to open on Christmas morning 2011. I was so excited, and it was so lovely to take the time to look at each little patch. I hope it's her forever quilt. It sits on the end of her bed, complimented by the Hello Milky handprinted French linen doona cover.

I also framed a photo that Tim Coulson took of me when I was 38 weeks pregnant with Poet. It was a really beautiful time, waiting for her to come, and Tim captured the love, expectation and wonderings in this one shot. I also love that my tea cup is?sitting?in the grass..."? Adorable child's roomLovely kid's room details Darling doll collection via A Beautiful Mess"We are proud homebodies. We love nothing?more?than hanging out together in our home. All of my work happens at home, from a computer on a trestle table in between the lounge room and the kitchen. When Daniel isn't working on set (he works in the film industry), he's home with me too. Che has just started school, so in the afternoons and on weekends he's building Legos, reading books or begging for pancakes. At the beginning of summer, we moved our dining?table?onto the veranda, so we've been eating alfresco all season?simple?pleasures." Adorable kids room Lovely children's books"We have lived here for close to six years. The space has evolved to include a work-from-home space for me and the changing needs of the children. Over the years I have spent many a day decluttering?getting rid of 'things' to ensure we have an element of calm in our space. I'm a big believer in the beauty of simplicity, and I try to create that in my home?beeswax candles, ephemera from nature, a pile of well-read books. I suppose I'm most inspired by the wabi-sabi aesthetic (I wrote about it here)."? The sweetest kid's room Darling room tour via A Beautiful MessThanks for sharing your space, Jodi!? Google Fiber to become Available for Small Businesses

(Ping! Zine Web Tech Magazine) ? Google is updating its fiber offering, a report from eetimes.com signaled Monday.

While initially available for residents in the Kansas City market, the company is said to be readying support for small businesses as well ? as indicated by Google access services VP Milo Medin who discussed the tech provider?s plans at a meeting coordinated by a local IEE group.

Discussing Google Fiber, Medin stated,?We were looking at it as an opportunity to offer a profitable service that could benefit the Web by offering a 100-fold step function in what?s available today,? according to eetimes.com.

Google first unveiled the service in July followed by a pre-registration period for area neighborhoods. The company has maintained that its service is 100x times faster compared to modern broadband offerings.

Sony Alpha A58, NEX-3N press images possibly caught making the rounds

Sony Alpha A58, NEX3N press images possibly caught making the rounds

We've already seen hints that Sony wants to rejuvenate its entry-level interchangeable lens cameras. Purported press images snagged by Digicam Info, however, support talk what could be an evolutionary yet meaningful refresh. The Alpha A58 you see above appears to only have minor ergonomic tweaks, but introduces a truly standard hot shoe and a new 18-55mm, f/3.5-5.6 II kit lens. The sighting backs earlier Sony Alpha Rumors claims, which also had the A58 carrying a roughly 20-megapixel sensor. A second set of pictures from DI (an example of which is after the break) also validates a previous live leak of the NEX-3N mirrorless cam, whose centerpiece is still its motorized zoom control. Neither Sony camera has a leaked release date, although the increasing flow of details suggests there isn't much more of a wait.
